Dr. Cathryn Mitchell, Ph.D--Principal
Welcome back Tigers!. I am excited to start my seventh year here at Gorzycki. What I have learned about the Gorzycki Community is that we all work together to provide a strong learning environment for our students. This was so evident last year. The trust and support that was given to the Gorzycki Faculty was overwhelming and something we don’t take for granted. We are so excited to have our Tigers back on campus and look forward to continuing our Gorzycki traditions.
Benjamin Summers--6th Grade Assistant Principal
Hey there, my new 6th graders! Welcome to Gorzycki! We are so excited to have you join the Tiger Family. I am your Assistant Principal and I look forward to helping you make that leap from elementary to middle school (it's not as scary as it may seem---I promise!). This is my second year in administration, but I have been a Tiger for much longer. I started teaching at Gorzycki in 2014 as a math teacher, so I know the campus and community extremely well! I have a passion and enthusiasm for learning, an affinity for positive behavior and accountability, and a strong focus on communication and efficiency.
If you are anything like me, the last school year was quite a crazy one. But we got through it together and, though we may enter this year with a bit of uncertainty, I have no doubt that this year will be even better! If nothing else, we learned so much and are that much smarter and experienced than we were one year ago. That being said, getting back into the routines and interactions of "normal school" may be causing some of you a little anxiety or concern. That is absolutely okay. Give yourself some grace as we re-enter a more typical school year and take your time. And, most importantly, know that we are here for you. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask Ms. Ryan or me...or any adult at GMS, really.
And, on the topic of grace, I found it to be my biggest takeaway from last year. I have been trying to dole out huge portions of grace whenever possible and I would encourage you to do the same.
As we begin this school year with some things still up in the air, keep in mind that we are all doing our best (students, parents and teachers), but we will make mistakes along the way. Practicing empathy in those moments is so important and is guaranteed to lead to better outcomes for everyone. No matter the situation, remember that words hold power and please exercise caution before jumping to conclusions. If something is unclear, please contact the school before taking action and give us the benefit of the doubt. I assure you we are always trying to do what is best for students at GMS.
I am so looking forward to starting this year with you all and I can't wait to meet you in person. Know that my door is always open. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at (512) 841-8604. Thanks and good luck this year!
Whitney Black--7th Grade Assistant Prinicpal
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. I am so excited to see your 7th grade students back in the building this year! It was such a crazy time last year, so I am hoping for more routine and structure this school year. Please assure your students that we are here to help them navigate through middle school and will be happy to help them find their classes. We all understand that so many of our students have not been in the building at all.
I would like to provide a couple of reminders for the upcoming school year. Please remind students that if they are attending athletic events, they must be picked up no later than 10 minutes after the game ends. This can be difficult as we don’t always know exactly when volleyball and basketball games end. If students are not picked up by appropriate times, they will not be allowed to attend future games. Lastly, please remind your students to use social media respectfully, if they wouldn’t want you to read it, then it shouldn’t be posted.
Please contact me with any 504 questions you may have and please remember that about 5% of the GMS student population has a nut allergy! Because of this concern, GMS is requesting that all food brought into the school be nut free. I can’t wait for another great year!
Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns you may have.
Jamie Paige--8th Grade Assistant Principal
Hey Tigers! I hope everyone had a great summer. I am so excited to meet you and support you in your final year at GMS! After nine years of teaching and coaching at the high school level, I’m looking forward to working with you in this new capacity.
After last school year, I know we have questions as to what this year will look like, but what I can say with absolute certainty is that we are all in this together. Through kindness, understanding, and positivity we will have an enriching, fun school year. Your 8th grade year tends to fly by, so enjoy every minute with your Tiger Family.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything. My door is always open.
