Welcome back Tigers!. I am excited to start my seventh year here at Gorzycki. What I have learned about the Gorzycki Community is that we all work together to provide a strong learning environment for our students. This was so evident last year. The trust and support that was given to the Gorzycki Faculty was overwhelming and something we don’t take for granted. We are so excited to have our Tigers back on campus and look forward to continuing our Gorzycki traditions.

Hey there, my new 6th graders! Welcome to Gorzycki! We are so excited to have you join the Tiger Family. I am your Assistant Principal and I look forward to helping you make that leap from elementary to middle school (it's not as scary as it may seem---I promise!). This is my second year in administration, but I have been a Tiger for much longer. I started teaching at Gorzycki in 2014 as a math teacher, so I know the campus and community extremely well! I have a passion and enthusiasm for learning, an affinity for positive behavior and accountability, and a strong focus on communication and efficiency.

If you are anything like me, the last school year was quite a crazy one. But we got through it together and, though we may enter this year with a bit of uncertainty, I have no doubt that this year will be even better! If nothing else, we learned so much and are that much smarter and experienced than we were one year ago. That being said, getting back into the routines and interactions of "normal school" may be causing some of you a little anxiety or concern. That is absolutely okay. Give yourself some grace as we re-enter a more typical school year and take your time. And, most importantly, know that we are here for you. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask Ms. Ryan or me...or any adult at GMS, really.

And, on the topic of grace, I found it to be my biggest takeaway from last year. I have been trying to dole out huge portions of grace whenever possible and I would encourage you to do the same.

As we begin this school year with some things still up in the air, keep in mind that we are all doing our best (students, parents and teachers), but we will make mistakes along the way. Practicing empathy in those moments is so important and is guaranteed to lead to better outcomes for everyone. No matter the situation, remember that words hold power and please exercise caution before jumping to conclusions. If something is unclear, please contact the school before taking action and give us the benefit of the doubt. I assure you we are always trying to do what is best for students at GMS.

I am so looking forward to starting this year with you all and I can't wait to meet you in person. Know that my door is always open. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me at benjamin.summers@austinisd.org or via phone at (512) 841-8604. Thanks and good luck this year!

Sabrina Sage--7th Grade Assistant Prinicpal***will start at GMS after Winter Break

sabrina.sage@austinisd.org

Howdy neighbors!  My name is Sabrina Sage, and I am beyond ecstatic to be Gorzycki's newest team member.  Not only am I your new 7th grade assistant principal, but I am also part of this community as well.  I live only 5 minutes away and love our new HEB!

As your 7th grade assistant principal, I promise to work shoulder to shoulder with all students, teachers, and families to continually build up and foster a strong community of intrinsically motivated learners.  My core belief is that schools are the roots to our world and should be treated as such.  That means nurturing schools with the right ingredients by understanding that all our roots are unique and come in different shapes and sizes.  It means balancing the elements and creating the environment for those roots to blossom into the trees they are meant to be.  As a developer of school root systems, I will bring to the table a plethora of experiences.  Instructional coaching, project-based learning development, and social behavioral skills coordination are just a few of the tools in my gardening kit.  My #1 goal is what is best for our students, and that means taking care of our teachers, effective communication, and being solution oriented.

As a life-long learner, I am very eager to meet and learn from each one of you.  We as a community will continue to grow our future leaders and nurture our roots of tomorrow.  Be ready for many smiles, greetings, and air hugs.

Please feel free to reach out to me at sabrina.sage@austinisd.org.

Hey Tigers! I hope everyone had a great summer. I am so excited to meet you and support you in your final year at GMS! After nine years of teaching and coaching at the high school level, I’m looking forward to working with you in this new capacity.

After last school year, I know we have questions as to what this year will look like, but what I can say with absolute certainty is that we are all in this together. Through kindness, understanding, and positivity we will have an enriching, fun school year. Your 8th grade year tends to fly by, so enjoy every minute with your Tiger Family.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything. My door is always open.
