Today’s Native American Heritage Month spotlight goes on Cheri Madsen - Paralympic wheelchair racing athlete. She began wheelchair racing in 1994 and qualified for her first Paralympic Games just two years later. She is the first Native American female to win an Olympic bronze medal. She competed in four Paralympic Games and won 10 Paralympic medals, 2 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze. Ms. Madsen retired from racing for 13 years, but returned to dedicate her race to her father and younger brother who died in a car-train crash.
Congratulations to the Theatre Arts UIL cast on advancing in the One Act Play Competition! The students did an amazing job on their show and will represent GMS at District on November 18th. Special awards were given to Anastasia P, Ella F, Amelie O, and Livia A in the acting categories, and Sophie L won the Outstanding Technician Award. Break a leg at District, Theatre!
This past Saturday, 26 GMS Band students participated in region band auditions at Covington MS. We are proud to report that 19 of those students were selected to be members of the all-region band! They will perform a concert with the best musicians from all over Austin on Saturday, December 6. A special congratulations goes out to 4 8th graders who also earned spots in the all-region orchestra: Maya A and Evelyn J on flute, Evan P on clarinet, and Emma A on French horn. Way to go Tiger Band!
The Boys Soccer B Team took on Paredes this Saturday and came away with a 2 to 0 win. Goals were scored by Anael C. and Axel H. and the defense led by center backs by Eli H., Mathew S. and goalkeeper Brayden B. preserved the shutout. The B-Team's next game is this Saturday at GMS against Lively. Come out and cheer on the B-Team.
The Boys Soccer A-Team defeated Paredes Middle School on Saturday 5-0. Scoring was led by Mikee P with 3 goals, Ian M with 1 goal, and Bruce B with 1 goal. The Man of the Match goes to Mikee P for scoring the first hat trick of the season! The A-Team will host Lively Middle School this Saturday, November 15th at 9 AM. Come out and support your Gorzycki Boys Soccer Teams!
