"The world is not a playground but a schoolroom." These words from Barbara Jordan remind us that our voices have the power to change history. Today we recognize her in honor of African American Heritage Month. Born in Houston, Jordan was a master of words who broke massive barriers. She was a political pioneer: She was the first Black woman elected to the Texas Senate and the first Black woman from the South elected to the U.S. Congress. In 1976, she made history as the first Black woman to give the keynote speech at a national political convention. Ms. Jordan was widely admired for her powerful voice and her "total faith" in the U.S. Constitution during some of the country’s toughest times. Even while battling multiple sclerosis, Jordan never stopped teaching others how to lead with integrity and courage.
Attention FCA students: there will be NO FCA this week. Please come to school your normal way. Again, NO FCA this week. We will resume next week.
Students, don’t forget to look through the lost and found by the gym; it is overflowing with lost items. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity this Friday after school.
