In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, today, we celebrate the “Queen of Tejano” - Selena Quintanilla-Perez. She started singing when she was 9 years old, and had to learn Spanish to sing the Tejano music she became famous for. She was just 15 years old when she won female entertainer of the year at the Tejano Music Awards. She won a Grammy in 1994 for best Mexican-American album, becoming the first female Tejano singer to win a Grammy in that category. She made two more albums after that win, and was nominated for another Grammy,. Tragically, Selena was shot & killed in the prime of her life. Her last album, with English and Tejano songs was released after her death, and her legacy continued with movies about her life and compilation albums in following years.
Congratulations to the boys and girls cross country team for a dominant performance last weekend at the Hoka McNeil Invitational in Round Rock. Out of over 25 middle schools, our boys and girls team both took 1st overall. With over 400 runners in the girls race, 7th grader Ella R won the meet with a school record time of 11:55 for two miles. She was followed by Maxine R in 4th, Bellamy W in 15th, Maya W in 30th, and Ava W in 32nd. Also with over 400 runners in the boys race, our boys were led by Reid A in 8th, John J in 16th, Hudson G in 27th, Josh K in 28th, and Evan D in 33rd. The next race will be this Saturday morning at St. Andrews
Attention all students: the Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting an event tomorrow morning. Come join us at the flagpole in the front of the school from 7:45-8:10am to sing and rejoice. Refreshments will be served. Remember, FCA is not just for athletes. All are welcome. See You at the Pole tomorrow morning.
Hey 6th graders! Come join PALS at Lunch Buddies today outside the cafeteria. Lunch buddies is open to all 6th graders, and it’s a great opportunity to talk to PALS, get to know more of your peers, and socialize. See you there!
Hey Tigers! Need or want help with a certain subject? Starting tomorrow, PALS will be available to help any 6th or 7th graders with work that you are struggling on. Come to room 508 in the mornings from 7:50 to 8:15 and we can help you with Math, ELA, World Cultures and more! If you need help but your teacher isn’t available that morning, PALS are here for you! Remember to stop by the table in the commons for a pass to come on up!
