Today for Hispanic Heritage Month, we are honoring a current sports star making history: football quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Of Cuban descent, Mr. Mendoza was a low-ranked recruit in high school who willed his way to greatness through pure work ethic. He shocked the sports world by leading the Indiana Hoosiers to a perfect undefeated season and their first-ever National Championship, all while being the first Cuban-American to win the Heisman Trophy. This led to him being the first Hispanic Number 1 NFL draft pick. Mr. Mendoza actively uses his platform to give back, founding the Mendoza Family Fund to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of his mother. He is known for his intense preparation and humble attitude.
