Today for Hispanic Heritage Month, we are celebrating a world-famous chef who uses food to change the world: José Andrés. Born in Spain, Chef José Andrés moved to America and became a successful restaurant owner, but his true superpower is helping people. In 2010, he founded World Central Kitchen, a disaster relief organization that rushes to the frontlines of hurricanes, earthquakes, and crises around the globe. Instead of just sending supplies, Chef Andrés and his team build massive kitchens right where the disaster happened to cook millions of fresh, hot meals for families in need. For his humanitarian work, he has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and received the National Humanities Medal. Chef José Andrés shows us that you can take something you love—like cooking—and use it to bring hope and comfort to people when they need it most.
