In recognition of African American Heritage Month, today we spotlight Dr. Mae Jemison.

In 1992, Dr. Jemison made history as the first African American woman to travel into space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. But her journey started long before that. A brilliant student who graduated high school at just 16, she became both a chemical engineer and a medical doctor. Before joining NASA, she even served in the Peace Corps, providing medical care in West Africa.  Dr. Jemison is living proof that being 'well-rounded'—she is also a trained dancer and was the first real astronaut to appear on Star Trek—is a superpower.
