For today’s African American Heritage Month spotlight, we are celebrating a modern-day history maker: Quinta Brunson! Quinta is the creator, writer, and star of the hit show Abbott Elementary. Before she was a TV superstar, she was a viral internet creator, but she never forgot where she came from. She grew up in West Philadelphia and named her show after her real-life middle school teacher, Ms. Abbott! In 2024, she became the first Black woman in over 40 years to win the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy. In 2022, Ms. Brunson was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. She is using her success to give back, recently launching the Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund to help over 100,000 students in her hometown go on educational trips.
