Daily Announcements: 02/27/26

Today for African American Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history.   At just 22 years old, Amanda captivated the world when she read her poem, 'The Hill We Climb,' at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration. But her journey wasn’t always easy—as a child; she worked hard to overcome a speech impediment, using writing to find her voice.

She became the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate and is now a powerful voice for change, focusing on issues like the environment and racial justice.

Amanda once said: 'There is always light, if only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it.'

The 8th grade basketball team improved to 14-0 and by dominating O Henry by a score of 78-26. Jeremiah Y led the way with 28 points and 6 assists. Robert B scored 12 and grabbed 10 rebounds while Keuvin W and Anson A chipped in with 7 points each. The Tigers play Murchison on Wednesday in the championship at Burger.

Congrats to the 7th and 8th grade C teams on their big wins against O. Henry MS on Wednesday. The 7th grade was led by the accurate long range shooting of Jude M and a team effort on defense that held to Mustangs to just 6 points. the 8th grade was led on offense by the great passing of Brody H and the dominating rebounding of Josue A. On defense Aaron L and Jack F led a team effort that shut down the Mustangs. Great Job Guys!

The team was led on offense by Max R and Luke R, and Langston Z led the way on defense, holding Murchison's best player in check all night.
