For Women’s History Month, today we celebrate Diane Elaine Gorzycki, our school’s namesake and Austin ISD band director for over 30 years. Ms. Gorzycki knew she wanted to be a band director from the time she was a little girl. She served at Porter and Bailey Middle Schools, and briefly at Austin ISD headquarters. Her bands drew national attention and won many awards. Ms. Gorzycki was able to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for GMS in 2008. Her sister still volunteers here in the library on most Tuesday afternoons. Stop by and say hello.
Attention students! The GMS Cyber Security Club recently competed in the national CyberPatriots competition. We are proud to announce that four of our teams advanced to the semi-finals, and one team, TechSupport404, earned second place in the entire state of Texas, that’s out of 96 middle schools! Congratulations to Ben S., Galen R., Rowen P., and Mark E. on this outstanding achievement. Way to go, TechSupport404!
