Hey Tigers! Here is today’s Red Ribbon Week fact - Did you know that most teenagers who start vaping do it to experiment and see what it’s like? That’s according to research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. But according to the US Department of Health and Human Services, vaping can seriously harm your lungs and brain because vapes expose you to toxic chemicals and metals like formaldehyde, nickel, chromium, and lead. Vaping is particularly dangerous for teens because our brains are still developing - which means those toxic chemicals can hurt your ability to learn, pay attention, and remember things. So Just Say No to vaping! Also, don’t forget that PALS will be passing out red ribbons today at all three lunches! Grab yours and wear it the rest of the week to show your commitment to leading a drug-free life! Keep looking for those red ribbons! There are only a few left! If you find one, bring it to Ms. Sindt in room 508 to claim your prize! 

This past Saturday, 59 GMS Band members participated in district band auditions and competed against students from 5 other schools across the Austin area. We are happy to report that 39 of these students received the "district band" designation and will be added to the GMS Band Wall of Fame! 23 of these students had scores that were high enough to qualify them to advance to the final round of auditions on November 7. We would like to give a special shout out to 8th grader Makayla C (clarinet) and 8th grader Riku S (bassoon) who finished first place on their instruments! Way to go Tiger Band! We are so proud of you. 

Hey 6th graders! Come join PALS at Lunch Buddies today outside the cafeteria. Lunch buddies is open to all 6th graders, and it’s a great opportunity to talk to PALS, get to know more of your peers, and socialize. See you there!
