As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, today we recognize Ricardo E. Alegria, known as the “father of modern Puerto Rican archeology”. He headed the renovation and restoration of Old San Juan , which led to it being declared a "Historical World Treasure”.  Dr. Alegria  formed the Museo de las Americas and Puerto Rican Theater Festival.  Alegría was a pioneer in the anthropologic studies of the Taino culture and the African heritage in Puerto Rico.
