In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we feature, Pope Leo XIV. The first pope from the United States, Cardinal Robert Prevost was named the 267th pope of the Catholic Church on May 8, 2025. Prevost’s mother is of Spanish descent, and his father is of Italian descent. After graduating from college and joining the priesthood, he moved to Peru. He was made a Cardinal in 2023. When elected pope, he took the name Leo XIV. Progressive on several social issues, Leo has been outspoken in his support of migrants, the poor, and climate change.
Students don’t forget about Sabor y Voces today in the library during all 3 lunches. There will be delicious Horchata provided by Ms. Heiser and her students, displays of Latin authors and pieces of their work, literature and information on key Hispanic figures and cultural contributions. In order to attend this event, you must have a pink event pass that was given to you by your ELA teacher.
