Hey Tigers! It's Day 2 of Love Your Brain Week! Today PALS want to remind you to avoid taking illegal drugs, especially Fentanyl, which is a leading cause of drug overdoses in our country. It only takes 2 mg of fentanyl to cause serious harm or even kill you! Also, always take prescribed medications exactly like the doctor tells you to. We tend to think prescription drugs are all safe, but in unhealthy amounts, they can do just as much harm as illegal drugs. Did you know that students who reach the age of 21 without using drugs, alcohol, or abusing prescriptions are more likely to stay away from them for the rest of their life? Never share your medications with others, and reach out to an adult if you or someone you know is struggling. Tomorrow’s focus will be on alcohol awareness. Please wear our school colors to show you stand in solidarity with making smart decisions about alcohol use!
Don’t forget about the Fall Harvest food drive for everyone who wants to go to the Monster Mash this Friday! Be sure to donate at least 6 to 7 non-perishable food items to our drive for the Central Texas Food Bank. Donation drop off spots can be found at the front of the school and by the bus drop off each morning.
This past Saturday, 66 GMS 7th and 8th grade band students participated in district band auditions at Small Middle School. They competed against students from 7 other schools and we are proud to report that a whopping 38 students earned spots as District Band members! 27 of these students had very high scores that qualified them to move on to the next round of competition which will happen November 8 at Covington. A special shout out goes to 8th graders Evan P (clarinet) Chance D (tenor sax) and Colin S (trumpet) who finished first place on their instruments! Way to go Tiger Band, we are proud of you!
Hey sixth graders! Come join PALS at Lunch Buddies today outside the cafeteria. Lunch buddies is open to all sixth graders, and it’s a great opportunity to talk to PALS, get to know more of your peers, and socialize. See you there!
