In recognition of African American Heritage Month, we spotlight Doris “Dorie” Miller who grew up in Waco, between Austin and Dallas.  Mr. Miller served in the United State Navy and was awarded the Navy Cross for his service at Pearl Harbor, where he carried the wounded to safety and fired at enemy planes.
