Today for Women’s History Month, we recognize Bernice Kiker, a pioneering educator who shaped the landscape of local leadership in Austin Independent School District.
Bernice began her career with 21 years of dedicated teaching before breaking barriers in 1943 as one of the district's first female principals. She led Travis Heights Elementary for over two decades, retiring in 1970 after a lifetime of service to students.
Her legacy is so enduring that Kiker Elementary School was named in her honor, continuing her mission of academic excellence and kindness today.
