During Arab American Heritage Month, we celebrate Paula Abdul, a groundbreaking entertainer whose Syrian-Jewish and Brazilian heritage has shaped her unique career as a dancer, choreographer, and pop icon. She began her career as a Los Angeles Laker cheerleader. Ms. Abdul won two Emmy Awards for her work as a choreographer. Her debut album, Forever Your Girl, spawned four #1 singles, making her one of the most successful female artists of the late '80s. As an original judge on American Idol, Ms. Abdul became a beloved household name, known for her kindness and mentorship to aspiring artists. In 2013, she made a high-profile visit to Israel to connect with her ancestral roots, further highlighting her pride in her Middle Eastern lineage.
On Wednesday the GMS Band department hosted their 2nd annual Young Artists Competition. 13 of our top Honors Band students performed difficult solos in front of an audience. We are proud to announce our winners of the event! First place was awarded to Maya A. on flute. Second place went to Evan P. on clarinet. Third place was awarded to Emma A on French horn. We are so proud of all of our students who participated in this event. Congratulations to our winners! Go Tiger Band!
Hey Tigers! Don't forget about a new donation event called Sunny Days Drive that is happening at our school! If you have any new or gently used items like beach towels, flip flops, swimsuits for kids through teens, or any other swim related items then you should think about donating! You can drop off donations at Gorzycki Middle School during school hours, from now until April 28th. The collection boxes will be set up outside of the front office, and to the right of the main staircase in the commons. These items will go towards less fortunate kids who don't have easy access to swim items this summer.
