During Arab American Heritage Month, we recognize Candace “Candy” Lightner, a pioneering activist of Lebanese and Syrian descent. As the founding president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), she transformed personal tragedy into a national movement that has saved hundreds of thousands of lives. After her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was killed by a repeat drunk driver in 1980, Lightner led the effort to pass over 700 state and federal laws. Her work was instrumental in raising the national legal drinking age to 21. Beyond MADD, Lightner has dedicated herself to her heritage, serving as the president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee from 1994 to 1995. Today, she continues her safety advocacy through We Save Lives, focusing on preventing drunk, drugged, and distracted driving.
More than 12,000 student projects from across the region were submitted for this year’s Hello World Demo Day, and only 30 were selected to present. We are incredibly proud to announce that two outstanding Gorzycki students, Anael C. and Korbin T., earned a spot among this elite group. Last Friday, they presented their immersive virtual reality experience at the event. Congratulations, Anael and Korbin! This is a remarkable achievement. Please join us in celebrating these exceptional students and their impressive accomplishment!

Hey Tigers! Don't forget about a new donation event called Sunny Days Drive that is happening at our school! If you have any new or gently used items like beach towels, flip flops, swimsuits for kids through teens, or any other swim related items then you should think about donating! You can drop off donations at Gorzycki Middle School during school hours, from now until April 28th. The collection boxes will be set up outside of the front office, and to the right of the main staircase in the commons. These items will go towards less fortunate kids who don't have easy access to swim items this summer.
Students! Please look through the lost and found by the gym. All items will be donated to a local charity, next Friday, May 1st.
