For today’s Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month spotlight, we honor Maya Lin, the visionary architect and artist who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. At just 21 and still a student at Yale, Ms. Lin won the national design contest for the memorial. Her simple, powerful black granite wall is now one of the most visited sites in D.C. She also designed the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. In recognition of her massive impact on American culture, Ms. Lin was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
